I got in a pretty big fight with my mum last night. I have a day off today and I feel like doing something nice for her, so I figured I'd do some cooking and baking.

I have these things available:

Hamburger meat

Potatoes

Barley

Carrots

2 Onions

Chicken Broth

Black Beans

Tomato Paste

A few eggs

Butter

Cheese

Milk

A couple canned, cream soups.Easy ish food recipes?
Hamburger Potato Casserole

1 pound lean ground beef

3 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup chopped onion

3/4 cup milk

salt to taste

freshly ground pepper, to taste

1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef; drain fat.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, onion, milk, salt and pepper to taste.

Alternately layer the potatoes, soup mixture and meat in a 11x7 inch (2 quart) baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until potatoes are tender. Top with Cheddar cheese, and continue baking until cheese is melted.

Buttery Cinnamon Cake

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon salt

2/3 cup shortening

1 1/3 cups white sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 eggs

2/3 cup milk

1/2 cup white sugar

6 tablespoons butter

1/3 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and lightly flour a 10 inch Bundt pan. Stir together the flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and salt; set aside.

In a large bowl, beat shortening, 1 1/3 cups white sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating for at least 1 minute after each egg. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack. Remove cake from pan while it is still warm, and poke holes around the top of the cake with a fork. Pour the warm cinnamon syrup into the holes and onto the top and sides of the cake.

To Make Cinnamon Syrup: In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup white sugar, butter, water, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon. Heat and stir until butter melts.

You can make a layered casserole of Hamburger meat, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, and use the Canned creamed soups as a sauce or you can use my ';Ten Minute Dinner'; recipe.

You can convert these recipes to metric and change the servings using the scaling tool.

Good luck!

Use the hamburger, potatoes, carrots, onions and a can of the soup to make a shepherds pie. Look for recipes here for times and amounts but you can put about anything you like in one. You could even cook some of the barley and/or black beans and add them too.

You could make a meat loaf with some side dishes. It's too bad you can't give her this heart-felt dinner tomorrow, everything always tastes better the day after but this is a lovely idea.k.

First get a rectangular glass dish to put the meat in, if you dont have that you could always make mini meat loaves with smaller dishes, these are soooo cute. make sure they can go in the oven. get a large bowl and mix the meat with the onions. chop the onions up, diced or smaller depending on what u or ur mother likes, add the herbsand seasonings. I'm not sure what u have but i'm sure that u know each has it's own type of flavouring so experiment, it's fun! maybe try rosemary (the old stand by). u could add corrinader or thyme, whatever you want, salt and peper aswell, sometimes I like to add paprika for fun. lol. anyways, and the egg, just one. then mix it all up. by the way if you have garlic and u just haven't mentioned it, ADD IT! I LOVE GARLIC! if u have it, mince two or three cloves depending on how much meat u have and mix. once you have put that all togther put some tomato paste on top of the meat loaf. Meanwhile, you can make some roasted vegetables. just peel and cut up the potatoes and carrots, and in a baking pan or parchment puting the olive oil, salt and pepper and garlic and seasoning in and bake it. it will be lovely. if you have the time you might also want to make a soup as a starter, u can add some barely, black beans, broth, carrots and garlic until all is cooked, add sone seasings *** well. put out some bread and butter and u are done. o don't forget the dessert, u havent added anything u could make for that but if you have a ckae mix or you could make that and add some fruit with melted sugar syrup, that might be nice, or ice cream and hot pie, if you want to make a pie hot just toss it in the oven to heat it up. nothing says ';i want to make up'; like a hot meal ended with a hot dessert and ice cream. i wish u the best of luck regardless.
