To make it easy and to insure your dog gets the proper amount of protein, fat, calcium, vitamins etc. it needs for proper growth, you need to provide your pup with a high quality, non filler puppy food. Assuring that your dog gets what it needs for it's immune system to form properly so that you have a really healthy adult dog with no health problems in years to come.

Add ingredients to the puppy food making it all the more healthy for your pup. These are great goodies for your pup and you can make various meals along with pup food.

*White rice (keep plain cooked rice on hand)

*Chicken plain, de boned and cooked (10lb bag of Chicken quarters from Walmart for 5.00).

*Green Beans a non fat source of protien

*Kidney Beans (most kinds of beans) for protein and iron

*Evaporated Milk or Goats Milk for more calcium

*Egg for protein.
Cooking for your dogs is making a comeback. Some owners, scared by the 2007 pet food contamination scandal, trust what they make themselves more than what they find on shelves. Others just like to treat their best furry friend to a homemade goody every now and then.

If you want to go that route I would suggest a healthy raw food diet. You should ask your vet what they suggest so you make sure that your dog is getting everything it needs.
Monica Segal has just published the 2nd edition of K9 Kitchen!!

K9 Kitchen: The Truth Behind the Hype (second edition) by Monica Segal, AHCW

Cutting through the current myths that surround home-prepared canine diets, this book presents facts as well as respectful consideration to feeding each dog as an individual. We begin with basic information, moving toward a better understanding of the nutritional needs of dogs, and providing analyses of commonly fed raw meaty bones and green tripe. The book provides 60 diet plans (20 cooked, 20 raw and 20 combination diets), the NRC 2006 nutrient requirements for adult dogs, and a step-by-step guideline to help the reader formulate a balanced diet.
